George Speed Homestead

The remnants of this farm I believe to be the farm owned by George Speed. Reed cemetery lies at the bottom of the hill that this farm was situated on. A later 1886 plat of the property shows it owned by David Mitchell (the husband of George's daughter Emma) click here to see the Platt.

This property was purchased from the Hewitt children in 1865. I Margaret Hewitt Young Guardian of the Said Mary R. Hewitt, Elizabeth M. Hewitt, Triphena Hewitt, Joseph C Hewitt, and Moses C Hewitt minors in pursuance of the order of the Court and in consideration of the sum of Five hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by George Speed do hereby convey to the Said George Speed all the right title and interest which the said minor heirs as aforesaid have in and to the following described premises to [will or wit]
