Claverack, Columbia, New York

As this map shows - the name Claverack or Klaverack once referred to the area beneath Renslaerwich as the lower manor or manor of Klaverack. It was purchased from the Indians in 1649 and consisted of 700,000 acres. It was patented by Killian van Rensselaer in 1685.
The current city of Hudson, NY was once known as Claverack Landing. This area later became part of Livingston Manor patented by Robert Livingston in 1686. Livingston Manor included the town of Klaverack located on Klaverack River (ref 1780 map by Covens and Mortier of the Northern part of North America). The Massachusetts border is only about 15 miles to the east of Claverack. While Claverack is now in Columbia County, New York it was originally a part of Albany County up until 1786.
